Gut Reset 101: Simple, Natural Tips to Restore Your Digestive Health

Your gut is more than just your digestive system—it’s your second brain, your immune hub, and a major player in your mood and energy levels. If you’ve been feeling sluggish, bloated, anxious, or just off, your gut might be calling out for a reset.

The good news? You don’t need a harsh detox or expensive protocol. God created our bodies to heal and restore with the right support. Here are a few gentle, powerful tools to help your gut reset and function the way it was designed to:

1. Sit Down and Chew—At Least 25 Times

Before we even talk about what you’re eating, let’s talk about how you’re eating. Rushing through meals, eating on the go, or scrolling your phone while snacking can keep your body in a stressed (sympathetic) state, which shuts down digestion.

By simply sitting down, taking a few deep breaths, and chewing each bite 20–30 times, you activate your parasympathetic nervous system—also known as “rest and digest” mode. This one small habit can drastically improve how well you absorb nutrients, reduce bloating, and support gut repair.

✨ Bless your meal, breathe, and eat with intention. It’s a small act of worship that honors your body.

2. Aloe Vera Juice: Soothe from the Inside Out

Aloe vera isn’t just for sunburns. Drinking pure, food-grade aloe vera juice can help calm inflammation in the gut lining, promote regularity, and support the healing of leaky gut symptoms.

It’s naturally antibacterial and antiviral, which makes it great for gently balancing the microbiome without wiping out your good bugs. Start with a small amount (1–2 ounces) in the morning on an empty stomach for best results. I like the brand Lily of the Desert - inner fillet, preservative FREE and I get it from Sprouts.

3. Coffee After Breakfast

We love a good morning cup of coffee—but drinking it on an empty stomach can spike cortisol, irritate the gut lining, and throw off blood sugar for the rest of the day.

Instead, try eating a nourishing breakfast first (with protein, healthy fat, good carb and fiber), and enjoy your coffee 30–60 minutes later. You’ll feel more grounded, focused, and balanced—plus, your gut will thank you.

✨ Try pairing your coffee with protein and fat. I drink mine with raw milk, collagen/colostrum and maple syrup! YUM!

4. Liquid Chlorophyll: Your Inner Cleanser

Chlorophyll is the green pigment found in plants, and it acts like a natural deodorizer, toxin binder, and blood purifier. When taken regularly, it helps oxygenate the body, reduce bloat, and support liver and gut detox pathways.

Many people notice clearer skin, better digestion, and even fewer sugar cravings after just a week or two of daily chlorophyll water. I put a teaspoon in my adrenal cocktails sometimes too!

5. Slippery Elm: A Herbal Gut Soother

Slippery elm is a time-tested herb known for its ability to coat and soothe the digestive tract. It creates a gel-like substance when mixed with water, which can help protect and repair irritated gut lining.

It’s especially helpful for those with heartburn, IBS, or symptoms of leaky gut. You can take it in tea, lozenge, or powder form—just be sure to take it away from medications or supplements, as it can interfere with absorption. I like Throat Coat tea by Traditional Medicinals when my stomach needs some love, (it contains slippery elm and a few other digestive supporting herbs)!

6. Raw Carrot Salads: A Forgotten Gut-Healing Staple

This simple combo—grated raw carrot with a little coconut oil, apple cider vinegar, and sea salt—has gone viral for a reason. It’s antimicrobial, anti-estrogenic, and deeply cleansing to the digestive tract.

Raw carrots contain unique fibers that bind to toxins, estrogen metabolites, and pathogenic bacteria in the gut, helping to escort them out of the body.

✨ Eat one small raw carrot salad daily (ideally before lunch) for happy hormones and a cleaner gut.

7. Spore-Based Probiotics: Resilient Gut Warriors

Most probiotics are fragile and don’t survive the journey to your intestines—but spore-based probiotics are tough. These intelligent strains survive stomach acid and colonize where they’re most needed.

They’re incredible for crowding out bad bacteria, supporting digestion, and even improving mood and immunity. I like the brands: Just Thrive and MicroBiome Labs. I don’t like using probiotics a ton but will supplement for a couple months when I feel my gut needs a reset.

Gentle, Not Extreme

A gut reset doesn’t mean starving yourself or doing extreme cleanses. It’s about returning to what your body was designed for—peaceful meals, natural foods, and honoring rhythms that support healing.

Don’t stress about doing everything at once. Pray about which of these habits or tools are right for your body in this season, and take small steps. Grace over perfection—always.
